The List You Don't Want To Be On

By Michael Benny

Police and proseucutors in Onondaga County are working with a new secret list of chronic offenders, hoping that with new cooperation, they can lock these people up for a long time.

This is called the CORE program, for Chronic Ofender Regocnition and Enforcement. District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick says, "They're destroying our quality of life, and its about time we had this tool to focus on them, and lock them up." The program will focus on 25 defendants who are chronic offenders. Fitzpatrick says 80 percento of the crime around here is committed by 8 percent of offenders.
