GEDDES, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in an upstate New York suburb are on the look-out for a wandering black bear seen running through local neighborhoods. Several local schools decided to cancel recess and outdoor gym glasses after two local residents called authorities early Thursday to report seeing the 6-foot bear in Geddes, a western suburb of Syracuse. Department of Environmental Conservation officers estimate the bear is one to two years old after finding its tracks in the backyard of a Geddes residence. DEC Officer Rick Head says the bear is likely migrating north. Head says it will move on if left alone. He says black bears are only dangerous if they are cornered.
