Donor Found for Eunique

Donor Found for Eunique

By Keith Kobland

A Corcoran High School student is counting her blessings tonight as a matching bone marrow donor has been found to help her battle her potentially fatal leukemia.

14-year-old Eunique Darby (and her family) received the news on Wednesday and will be travelling to Rochester next month to receive a bone marrow transplant that she hopes will save her life.

The Darby family knows they are lucky, as sometimes as few as three in ten patients in search of donors ever find an exact match.

Wenesday night a donor was located, and as a result Eunique will receive a transplant. More donors are needed to help people who are in a similar situation. All it takes is a quick sample taken from a swab in the mouth.

Clinics are being held today at SUNY Upstate Medical University, another one will be held May 12th at the Boys and Girls Club. Clinics will also take place at SUNY Upstate May 16th, and one on May 18th, at the Abundant Life Christian Center, located just off Taft Road.
