Petition The State Assembly To Pass The Gas Tax Holiday
Central New Yorkers frustrated by rising gas prices are being asked to put their pen and pencils to work.
A pair of State Senate republicans are urging fed up motorists to sign a petition, requesting members of the State Assembly to pass the same gas tax holiday measure approved by the Senate. This is the bill that would eliminate the State's 32 cents-per-gallon gas tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Critics contend oil companies could simply raise the price of gas even more, negating the savings at the pump. Before the measure could become reality, the Assembly would have to act on it before breaking for the summer, and it would also need Governor Paterson's signature.
