Tax Assessments Rolled Back

Tax Assessments Rolled Back

By Keith Kobland

It was a pack house at the Cicero Town Hall for this mornings special meeting. The Town Board called the meeting because of complaints from neighbors that their recent home assessments were too high, deciding to roll back to the old assessments for now.
Neighbors from homes overlooking Oneida Lake in Cicero haven't seen their homes reassessed since 1990. When assessed this year, some property values increased nearly 200 percent.
Neighbors called the assessment unfair, and say the Assessor didn't have the proper information.
The board stressed at this morning's meeting, the Assessor is a private party.
The meeting lasted no long than 5 minutes, but that's all the neighbor's needed to hear that the town rejected the new property assessments.
