Ithaca Carshare is slashing the cost of owning a car, by providing a car whenever someone needs it. It's the 31st carsharing program in the country.

Ithaca Carshare allows drivers to rent cars by the hour, and are charged 20-cents per mile. Members reserve a car online or by phone. There are 6 locations around Ithaca to pick up a vehicle. Drivers unlock the car with a key fob, and then driver where ever they want, dropping it back off where they picked it up.

All Ithaca Carshare members are covered under the companies insurance, and won't pay a dime for gas or repairs. For many, a much better deal than buying a car.

Ithaca Carshare has six Nissan Versas, and For Ranger pick-ups are on order. The city hopes to have up to 50 cars on the road by the end of the year.
