Car of the Future Displayed at the Fair

It's hard to believe, but the 1993 Geo Metro is the car of the future, and Cornell University is modifying it to eventually get 100 miles per gallon. Cornell is one of two universities in the country, along with thousands of other organizations, who will battle for $10 million dollars in the Automotive-x Prize Competition. The global contest challenges anyone in the world to build a four passenger car that can run on a full battery charge for 50 miles, go from 0-60 mph in 12 seconds, and most importantly, get 100 miles per gallon.

The car is Cornell's test vehicle. The final car will have a much sleeker appearance, and will be done by next May. The Cornell team will begin building the car of the future early next year. They will qualify with that car in New York City in 2009, and the world automotive-x prize competition is in 2010
