To call it an artifact is an understatement. The 82-year-old boxing ring which saw it's first fight in 1925 and last bought last year, saw many momentous fights, and touched so many lives. "It really spans over millions of people over decades, so it is a treasure. The most treasured item in boxing, now here in boxing's hometown", Ed Brophy, Executive Director of the Boxing Hall of Fame said.

Brophy got his hands dirty today, helping the set-up crew, including Patrick Pierre, who's had a hand in building this ring at Madison Square Garden for the last four years. Today, they assembled it for the last time. "In the amount of years I've been working at the Garden, to put it together today for the last time, it brings a lot of memories", Pierre said.

Pierre didn't realize how special his job was, until he learned the history behind the ring. He wasn't a boxing fan then, but now knowing how important this ring was, he's getting a little choked up saying good bye. "Having to go through the learning process and the history behind it. I'm just so overwhelmed, I just don't know what to say", Pierre added.

The ring is exactly the same as it was back in 1925. It has the same velvet ropes, cast iron ring posts, and the very steps greats like Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Joe Lewis, and Rocky Marciano walked up to get to the battle grounds.

This historic ring will now be the center piece for events and exhibits. And now after the 82 years of service, it comes to a final resting place here at the Boxing Hall of Fame.
