CANTON, N.Y. (AP) - A suspended high school English teacher is
facing up to six months in jail after admitting she had sex with a
15-year-old student.
Christel Gravlin pleaded guilty to third-degree rape Monday in
St. Lawrence County Court. The 33-year-old Lisbon Central School
teacher says she had oral sex and intercourse with the boy on Nov.
25 during a brief affair.
The relationship became known when she went to a school
basketball game while intoxicated and announced the affair to
nearby students and spectators. Gravlin blames her actions on
depression, alcohol, prescription drugs and pressure from the
victim.
Gravlin will be sentenced May 5. She also faces 10 years of
probation.
As a felon, Gravlin will have to surrender her New York state
teaching license.
