Cornell Creeper
Police in Ithaca are looking for a man who's scaring Cornell University students by sneaking into their bedrooms. It evokes memories of the "Collegetown Creeper," who terrorized women four years ago.
At 3 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, a Cornell University student was roused out of bed by something in her bedroom. A man was sitting at the foot of her bed in her off-campus apartment, staring at her. She confronted him and he took off on foot. People in the neighborhood can't believe it. Student Muqtadar Ahmed says, "I think that it's a pretty awkward and weird thing to wake up to." Police say within hours of this incident, the same thing happened to another woman down the road on Maple Avenue. The Tompkins County Sheriff's Department has teamed up with Cornell University police to try to find the culprit. The two agencies are in touch with each other daily following up on any leads. The whole thing causes some students to ask for more security. Student Xin Qi says, "I think first they should send more cars going around the city and maybe they should install some monitoring devices." This reminds people of the "Collegetown Creeper," who back in 2004, snuck into students rooms and touched them while they slept. Abraham Shorey is now sitting in prison in San Diego, for sexually assaulting a woman there. People hope this isn't a repeat of those scary days when students did not feel secure. Police are warning people to be more careful. They ask people to lock their windows and doors, even when they're home. And they want people to report any suspicious activity immediately. The suspect in the first incident is described as a white male, 6 ft, 180 lbs with short hair. The suspect in the second incident is described simply as a light-skinned male. |
