Still No Republican Contender for Jim Walsh's Seat
There is still no republican candidate for the 25th District Congressional seat, after former GOP front runner Pete Cappuccilli dropped out Tuesday night due to health reasons.
Pete Cappuccilli's announcement came as surprise to everyone. Political experts in Central New York say they are even more shocked at the limited number of candidates stepping forward. Not everyone is concerned. Retiring Congressman Jim Walsh isn't worried at all. He says there is plenty of time to find a replacement and many strong candidates will soon be coming forward. Walsh says Cappuccilli was such a strong candidate, it kept people from entering the race. He did not mention any names, but did say he will not delay his retirement to enter the race. With Cappuccilli now out of the race, all eyes are turning back to the republican candidates who were considering a run before. Both Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick and Manufacturers Association President Randy Wolken say they have no intention of re-entering the race. Both say they carefully considered their options before and made the right decisions for their families and community. |
