Neighbors Demand Mass-demolitions

Neighbors Demand Mass-demolitions

By Michael Benny

The advocacy ground Syracuse United Neighbors wants the wrecking ball to sweep thru and get rid of vacant properties on the south, southwest and near west sides of the city.
The city says it's taking vacant homes more seriously than ever before, but can't possibly afford to demolish all of them. As part of a bold new effort, the city will sell some properties to qualified buyers for a dollar, hoping that turns things around. There is another effort underway to offer unprecedented tax exemptions to anyone who fixes up a wreck, or builds on vacant land.
