Parents petition against North Syracuse school realignment

Parents petition against North Syracuse school realignment

By Keith Kobland

The North Syracuse Central School District wants to realign neighborhoods because of overcrowding at Gillette Road Middle School. If the realignment is approved, it could affect 174 families.
The plan would send children graduating from Bear Road Elementary School to Roxboro Road Middle. That school is 5 miles farther than Gillette.
North Syracuse parents Cindy Zinszer and Ellen Kotzin have put together a petition, and already it's been signed by more than 100 people. They call the realignment unfair and say whatever happens, it should disrupt the fewest students possible.
If approved, the changes could go into effect in September, but these women want a public vote to decide what happens.
Both women plan on getting more signatures and presenting the petition to the school board at the next meeting. That meeting will be held on Monday May 12 at 7:30 at the North Syracuse School District offices on Taft Road.
