Motorcycle Safety
Last night a 21-year old Elbridge man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a minivan. Just a few days earlier, another rider was killed when he hit a guardrail on Interstate 81. About a week before that, a man died after losing control of his bike on state route 169. It's been a difficult month for local motorcyclists, and ironically enough, May is Motorcycle Awareness Month.
With the rising temperatures and gas prices, a lot of motorists are trading in their cars for cycles. But for new riders, there's a lot to learn. Here's what you need to know to stay safe on the roads: wear the appropriate gear - leather jackets aren't just there to make you look tough. They can act as shields if an accident were to occur. Inspect your bike before each ride, obey all traffic laws, especially the speed limit, and most importantly, wear a helmet. |
