Neighbors Fed Up With "Worst Vacant Building" In Syracuse

By Joe Roetz

Right near Carlisle Simmon's home sits a boarded up apartment building. But carlisle says there are people who still go inside this place. Those who shouldn't be there, and he knows the damage they can cause.

The building sits right next to the Cannon Street Community Center, where children play outside. Neighbors like Carlisle, along with Syracuse United Neighbors claim along with gang activity in and around the building, raw sewage was dumped in the back of the lot. But lawmakers need the community's help before they can get rid of the building. Rory McMahon, Syracuse's City Attorney, says "I asked people to show up on sep 18th, because i need their testimony to prove this building is a problem."

Neighbors and community center employees hope if the building is destroyed, they will be able to expand the grounds and create a larger, safer area for children and residents.
