'Green' Supermarket Opens in Liverpool

Everyone is going green these days, from the cars they drive to the food they eat. It's the green movement and the organic food market is booming. Earth's Own Market and Café in Liverpool just opened its doors and organic food enthusiasts came out in droves.

In the past decade, U.S. organic sales have grown 20% or more each year. Some say organic food tastes better, some say it's better for the environment, but for the majority of people, choosing the organic lifestyle was the answer to their health problems. "I am a Diabetic and i really needed to change my lifestyle. Instead of doing all the drugs, I decided to eat well and be well," said Earth's Own owner, Mario Pirrello.

Jon Rogers was a long-time allergy sufferer, and after getting into organic foods, has cut his sick time in half. "Eating both whole food and organic food has helped me overcome a lot of allergies a lot of regular everyday illnesses," said Rogers. "I have suffered a lot less as a result of the organic lifestyle."

Organic fruits and vegetables are grown without the use of conventional pesticides or fertilizers. Organic livestock are raised without exposure to hormones or antibiotics. "Anytime you can keep pesticides out of your bloodstream, it just has to be better for you. It's basically common sense. You are what you eat," said Pirrello. It's not just food that can be organic. There's also shampoo, lotion, nail polish, deodorant - all natural, made from plants, and never tested on animals. Aside from the health benefits, buying organic often means buying local, which enables consumers to stay connected with their communities.
