Shop City Safety

By WTVH News2

The man suspected of stealing an elderly mans car yesterday in the Shop City Plaza is still on the loose, and some of the older people who frequent the Salina plaza question the safety there.

The 74 year old man simply got out of his car to mail a letter, but left the keys in the ignition, and the car running. When he went back to the car, it was being stolen. Older folks say they are the targets of recent violence and they want to put a stop to that.

A private security company patrols the plaza, from 9 a.m. To 9 p.m. Everyday, and it's on the Onondaga County Sheriff's, and Syracuse Police Department's normal beats. The plaza is currently on a list of places in the area that could see more police presence in the future, but as of right now, patrols will not increase.

Sheriff's deputies are warning the elderly to travel in groups, and be aware of the surroundings.

The sheriff's department is looking for the publics help in finding the car thief, and the car. It's a dark blue 2002 Chrysler Concord, plate number ANZ9260. The suspect is described as a black male, ABOUT 5'9, in his late teens or early 20's. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department at 435-3081.
