Plumpton's Perspective: Nick Pirro
Nick Pirro has been the Onondaga County Executive for 20 years, but his election began with one of the hardest fought primary battles in county history. Pirro was chairman of the legislature in 1987 when the first executive, John Mulroy, decided not to run again. Pirro decided to go for it. So did Syracuse Common Council President Jim Walsh. Pirro tells CBS 5 News that, much like this year, it was the primary in 1987, not the general election after, that proved to be the tough race. "And I know, today I know," Pirro said, "that Jim Walsh had a poll that showed he was way ahead."
