Chiefs Take Advantage Of Braves' Mistakes

The Syracuse Chiefs beat the Richmond Braves 12-2 Monday at The Diamond. The Chiefs took advantage of 12 walks and three errors to send the Braves to their seventh straight loss.



The Chiefs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by Jeff Bannon and an error that allowed Bannon to score. Richmond responded with a run in the home half. Reggie Taylor tripled and scored on a Wes Timmons ground out. Syracuse opened up a 4-1 lead in the fifth when Russ Adams scored on a passed ball. The Chiefs blew the game open in the sixth, batting around to score five runs. Curtis Thigpen and Buck Coats drew bases-loaded walks. Adams chased two home with a single. Coats scored on a wild pitch. Richmond added a run in the eighth. Josh Anderson reached on an error and scored on a double play ball. The Chiefs tacked on three runs in the ninth. Chip Cannon blasted a home run. Two walks and an error produced two more runs.



David Pursey earned the win. Michael MacDonald tossed four innings of relief to notch a save. Damian Moss took the loss. Anderson and Brent Lillibridge had two hits each for Richmond. Thigpen, Coats, and Eric Nielsen had two hits for the Chiefs.



The Braves and Chiefs continue their series at The Diamond Tuesday at 7 PM.
